Researchers Hope To Uncover Who's Behind the 'Mona Lisa' SmileScreen shot 2013-06-11 at 10.59.30 PM.png

The Mona Lisa, one of the most analyzed and interpreted paintings of all time, is being studied yet again. A team of researchers and archeologists, led by art historian Silvano Vinceti, is determined to discover who was the model for the famous painting. A possible candidate is Lisa Gherardini-- the wife of a wealthy Renaissance trader. The team has excavated her grave site in Italy, and currently awaits DNA test results that were performed on her remains. Some of Gherardini's facial features are believed to be incorporated into the painting. The famed, elusive smile, however, may not have been Ghirardini's at all-- Vinceti believes that it belonged to Gian Giacomo Caprotti, da Vinci's assistant and supposed lover. Although the tests won't be conclusive for several months, one thing is clear: the brilliance of da Vinci may never be fully understood.

Chinese Painting Poem

Dawn-colored fog drifting over the worldTrees floating above; hushed gardens concealed.Shrouded secrets murmur, caressing the earthWhite-faced creatures awaken and ponder.Morning blushes and clings to the sky.

I love your last line. Excellent. Mr. Chester

The Life and Legacy of Johann Gutenberg
Screen shot 2012-10-27 at 11.46.35 AM.png

Johann Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press pulled Europe out of a world where books were rare and expensive and the majority of people were illiterate; this makes him one of the 100 most influential people of all time. Gutenberg was born to wealthy parents. As a child, his greatest passion was reading. He believed that everyone should haveability to read and was determined to invent an easier, cheaper method of printing books. Thus, at age 52, with money borrowed from an investor named Johann Fust, Gutenberg created the printing press. This invention took Europe by storm; within five years, two hundred Gutenberg Bibles had been printed and distributed.
Word of the printing press spread from Gutenberg’s home in Germany to far-off places such as Venice, Italy, which soon became the printing capital of Europe. Italy’s economy grew rapidly as literacy spread and the demand for printed books increased. Additionally, many events, such as the Reformation, would not have been possible without the printing press. Martin Luther's ability to print and circulate books told all of Europe about his ideas. In conclusion, Gutenberg’s invention greatly improved Europe’s literacy rates and had an enduring influence on the modern world.

"Life is a River"

Life is always twisting, constantly flowing,full of excitement and wonder.
You may float idly by some days,watching the clouds in the sky.
But some days it is cold and windy;
you are racked with turbulence.
It may be flowing faster in some places,
it may be warmer,
or colder.
Sometimes it gets much too deep;
you barely inch by
.Sometimes it is shallow; you race along faster than light.
Each day is different, nothing is ever the same.

There are some rough edges and sharp turns ahead,
obstacles blocking your way,
but know this.
Life is a river: you'll always end up where you belong.

Both are terrific! 4's for each. Mr. Chester
